The right yard sign size depends on where it will stand and how fast people are moving past it. Here’s a quick guide to the most popular sizes.
The most popular sizes
- 18″ x 24″: the standard yard sign. Big enough to read from the street, small enough to fit anywhere. The best choice for campaigns, real estate and most businesses.
- 12″ x 18″: compact and affordable. Great for directional signs, events and placing lots of signs along a route.
- 24″ x 36″: noticeably bigger presence for busy roads, intersections and job sites.
- 24″ x 48″ and up: for high-speed roads, large properties and when you need to be seen from far away.
How far away can people read it?
A common sign industry rule of thumb: every 1 inch of letter height is readable from about 10 feet away for best impact. On an 18″ x 24″ sign with 4-inch letters, your main message reads well from roughly 40 feet, about the width of a street.
Tips for any size
- Keep it to 3–5 words for the main message
- Use high contrast: dark text on a light background, or the reverse
- Choose double-sided printing for signs placed perpendicular to the road
How our pricing works
Our Coroplast yard signs are printed on full 4′ x 8′ sheets, so smaller signs cost less each. One sheet makes twenty 12″ x 18″ signs or ten 18″ x 24″ signs.
